Every collection needs a couple of classics, and in Ferrell’s case, he sprang for one of the best: the Rolex Submariner “Hulk” ref. 126610LV. Housed in the brand’s 40 mm “Super” case, it’s among the final set of Subs released before the Crown transitioned to its larger 41 mm housing in 2020. Featuring both a green Cerachrom bezel insert as well as a green dial, it’s among a trio of verdant subs that includes the earlier 50th-anniversary “Kermit” and the later 41 mm “Starbucks,” both of which feature black dials and green bezel inserts. Powered by the Rolex cal. 3235, the “Hulk” is a beloved and highly collectible reference.

This, frankly, may be the best watch in Ferrell’s collection: Worn with aplomb by Ferrell at the Critics Choice Awards and combined with a blue suede dinner jacket, this special version of the Timex Camper field watch features a 36 mm bead-blasted steel case, a fabric strap, and a black dial with luminous indices, a red sword handset, and the Abu Garcia logo. What the heck is Abu Garcia, you might ask? Why, it’s a Swedish-founded fishing supply company, of course! How did Ferrell come across this watch? Anybody’s guess, but we’re glad he did. It just goes to show you that with the right attitude, any watch can be a dress watch.
Zenith Chronomaster Original

Back in 2022, Ferrell wore the Zenith Chronomaster Original on a late-night television appearance, cementing his reputation as an in-the-know watch guy. Based upon the brand’s classic ref. A386, the 38 mm Chronomaster Original is powered by a modern version of the brand’s famous automatic El Primero chronograph movement from 1969, one of the first such movements in the world. (Hence the name.) What’s particularly cool about the cal. 3600 is that its high-beat frequency allows the chronograph to zip around the dial and measure one-tenths of a second. (Trust us: After a few drinks, it makes for a neat party trick.)
Omega Seamaster Diver 300M “007 Edition”

Is Will Ferrell the next James Bond?! He could be, considering he rocked the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M “007 Edition” with a white dinner jacket to the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards and looked like a stone cold Mi6 agent while doing so. Released in concert with the (much-delayed) No Time To Die, this Seamaster was the first to feature the now-common mesh bracelet that adorns many other executions within the collection. This special Bond-themed version, however, is made from titanium, features vintage-colored lume, and has the “Broad Arrow” on the dial, a symbol of British Crown property that often adorns military kit.

Ferrell was spotted courtside in March ‘23 wearing an Explorer, one of the Crown’s classic tool watches. Released in 1953, it came after Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay summited Mount Everest with an adventure-ready Oyster Perpetual. Rolex took cues from the pair’s watch to release the original Explorer with a 36 mm steel case; a black dial featuring a mix of Arabic, baton, and triangular indices; an automatic movement; and a steel Oyster bracelet. The modern versions are available in both 36 mm and 40 mm, but it’s the former that hews closest to the vintage original.

Another winning feature of Ferrell’s collection is that he is always willing to play ball. When tasked with getting dressed for the Barbie premiere, the comedian sought out a watch to match the movie’s pink theme. Naturally, he looked toward one of his favorite watchmakers in Oris. The brand’s ProPilot X 400, which, naturally, he picked up from his local boutique wearing matching pink shorts.

While Ferrell is clearly an omnivorous collector, you can’t ignore the sizeable chunk of his watch box dedicated to the Crown. He owns both the flamboyantly colorful Submariner “Hulk” as well as the prototypical rugged field watch in the Explorer. The Yacht-Master is somewhere between those two worlds: a sport watch with a luxurious white-gold construction.
