Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia, 29, and his wife Kayla have shared heartbreaking news about the loss of their first child. In a joint statement posted to Instagram on Friday, November 7, the couple revealed that their daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, was stillborn on Sunday, October 26.
“Our little angel. We love you forever & you’re with us always,” they wrote alongside a touching photo of their hands placed over their baby’s. “There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
The Vesias expressed deep gratitude toward the Dodgers organization for their support during this difficult time, following the team’s World Series win against the Toronto Blue Jays on November 1. “Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” they said.
They also thanked Dodger Nation, the Blue Jays organization, and baseball fans for the outpouring of love and sympathy: “We have seen ALL your messages, comments, and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
The couple extended appreciation to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center staff for their compassion and care: “Every person we came across was truly so incredible.”
Vesia had previously stepped away from the Dodgers before the World Series due to what the team described as a “deeply personal family matter.” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and team president Andrew Friedman both voiced their full support, with Friedman saying, “This is so much bigger than baseball… we just wanted to be 100% supportive.”
During the World Series, Dodgers players honored Vesia by wearing No. 51 on their caps.
