UFC’s Tommy McMillen explains ‘Scarface’ tattoo

UFC newcomer Tommy McMillen explains the meaning behind the large “Scarface” tattoo on his chest.

Tommy McMillen turned heads with his performance at Dana White’s Contender Series recently, but that wasn’t the only thing that caught the eye of those watching.

McMillen (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who trains alongside former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, appears to share some of the same vibes as ‘Suga,’ including tattoos. One in particular that stood out among the others was a depiction of Al Pacino as Scarface firing a gun, with the words “the world is yours” above a couple of bullet holes inked on the right side of his chest.

For McMillen, that scene in the movie represents how he’s willing to leave it all in the octagon during a fight.

‘In that part of the movie, you know, his house is being raided by everybody, and he could have just went and ran, you know what I mean?” McMillen told MMA Junkie. “But he went, grabbed his gun, and just went sprayin’, pretty much just saying he’s gonna die defending his sh*t.

“MMA has brought me every blessing I currently have in my life. This sport’s been good to me. When I get in that cage, that’s kinda my same mentality is I’m willing to die to defend the blessings that this sport has brought me and will continue to bring me.”

If you watched McMillen’s fight on Dana White’s Contender Series on Sept. 2, you would see he really means what he says. He was caught in a nasty choke attempt in which his head and neck were nearly twisted behind his back, but he somehow managed to escape. Not only did he survive that moment, but he mounted a comeback to earn a UFC contract.

“I think my performance last Tuesday night showed I am willing to die in there,” McMillen said. “I thought my neck was going to snap, and I know 99.9 percent of people, even in the UFC at 145 pounds, would tap in that situation. That’s a big thing that separates me from the rest of these guys.”
