Australia will defend their World Test Championship (WTC) title against South Africa from June 11 at Lord’s. Australia won the Championship after beating India in the 2023 final. Travis Head and Steve Smith were the cornerstone of Australia’s 209-run win and smashed centuries to bat India out of the game. The two also helped Australia qualify for the WTC 2025 final after scoring two centuries in the Border-Gavaskar series to lead Australia to a 3-1 win.
Travis Head is an impactful player. He may not be as consistent as Steve Smith, but when he’s on song, it’s very difficult for the opposition to make a comeback in the Test. Australia would hope that Head is in full flow during the WTC final, which will boost Australia’s chances of a win significantly.

Travis Head On Cusp Of History

Travis Head scored 163 in 174 balls in the first innings of the WTC 2023 final and followed it up with an 18 run knock in the second innings, taking his tally of runs to 181 in the WTC final. Head needs just 19 runs in the final against South Africa to become the first player in the world to score 200 runs in the WTC final.

Meanwhile, Head needs 182 runs to achieve an even bigger feat. If he gets the required runs, he will become the first player in the world to score 500 runs in ICC finals. The record for most runs in ICC finals is held by Virat Kohli, who scored 410 runs in 10 innings. Head, on the other hand, has played just three innings – the ODI World Cup final, where he scored 137 and the WTC final, where he played knocks of 163 and 18.

    Australia Nearing History

Australia are also nearing a historic feat. They are the favourites to win the WTC final and if they do so, they’ll become the first team to win the WTC twice.
