Tough News for Jordan Spieth originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Jordan Spieth knew he needed a massive weekend in Memphis to crack the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings and qualify for next week’s BMW Championship. The 32-year-old couldn’t get it done, finishing with a final-round 68, 2-under par.

His round ended with a bogey on the 18th hole, and his season appears over as he’s unlikely to hold a spot inside the top 50.

This came after a 7-under finish last week at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina. His 31st-place result there earned him $53,710 and gave him hope of moving into the top 50, but it wasn’t enough for the Dallas native.

🚨🫧❌ #UPDATE — After being on the bubble throughout his round, Jordan Spieth had a costly bogey at the last and is now projected to fall outside of the top 50 needed to advance to next week’s BMW Championship. His season appears to be over. pic.twitter.com/x01noAzl2r

Spieth’s finish in Memphis left fans heartbroken.

This post started it: “That’s a tough way to end the round. See ya next season..”

Another here: “It wasn’t the BOGEY on 18 that cost him – he was unreal driving today, and for the most part his approach game was spot on… His playoffs could be over because he couldnt make a putt… He had multiple chances from 10 feet and in and couldn’t convert. I am not happy ….”

Interesting thought from this commenter: “Could seriously do with some time away from the game. Looks like he just goes through the motions these days.”

“Brutal…The 30 for 30 of his fall from the top of the golf world will feed families…,” said here.

This post says it all: “Awful.”

“He was the guy who fellow players feared a few years ago. Can’t see him coming close to winning another major,” commented here.

    Jordan Spieth’s Career Accomplishments

Spieth has 13 career PGA Tour wins, including three majors. The only major missing from his career Grand Slam is the PGA Championship. His major victories are:

    • Masters (2015)
    • U.S. Open (2015)
    • Open Championship (2017)

Other Career Honors for Jordan Spieth

    • PGA Tour Rookie of the Year (2013)
    • PGA Tour FedEx Cup Winner (2015)
    • PGA Tour Money List Winner (2014-15)
    • PGA Tour Player of the Year (2015)
    • Byron Nelson PGA Player of the Year (2014-15, 2016-17)
    • Vardon Trophy (2015, 2017)

Will Jordan Spieth Make Ryder Cup Squad?

The Ryder Cup roster will be announced soon. Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, JJ Spaun, Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau and Harris English are set to qualify automatically.

U.S. captain Keegan Bradley, the youngest captain since 1963, will pick six at-large players. Justin Thomas is widely expected to make the team, while Spieth will be competing for a spot with Patrick Cantlay, Maverick McNealy, Cameron Young, Sam Burns, Ben Griffin and Collin Morikawa, among others.

Spieth entered Memphis ranked ninth among Americans in strokes gained over the past six months. While his season-ending playoff miss is a setback, making the Ryder Cup roster isn’t completely out of reach.
