President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Olayinka Babalola on his recent election as the President of Rotary International for the 2026/2027 term.
Babalola, representing the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, Nigeria, was elected by the Rotary International Board of Directors following the resignation of SangKoo Yun due to health reasons. He is set to assume office on July 1, 2026.
Babalola’s election marks a significant milestone as he becomes only the second African and Nigerian to hold this prestigious position in the 120-year history of the global humanitarian organisation.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Babalola’s extensive service through the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Rotary International, highlighting his philanthropic efforts and commitment to projects enhancing lives, community development, peace, and human dignity.
President Tinubu also emphasised that Babalola’s achievement will serve as an inspiration to millions of Nigerians, especially the youth, demonstrating that global leadership and transformative impact are attainable through vision, integrity, and dedication to service.
In his message, President Tinubu assured Babalola of the government’s support as he prepares to lead humanitarian initiatives, foster international partnerships, and promote service to humanity. The president wished Babalola success and renewed strength in his tenure.
