The Grateful Dead may have formed in Palo Alto, CA, but they had something of a second home in the Pacific Northwest. Between 1974 and 1994, the band regularly gigged at the University of Oregon’s Autzen Stadium, bringing their legendary jammy prowess to the home of the Ducks 10 times during that run (plus another 10 in Eugene, OR, at other venues). The ties between the stadium and the band run deep and remain present today, even as the band has transformed following frontman Jerry Garcia’s passing in 1995. (The surviving members now tour as Dead & Co. with John Mayer.) With 2025 marking 60 years of the Dead, Nike and the Ducks are commemorating the ties with a brand new sneaker–and more.
For those looking to just get the nitty-gritty on the kicks, here it is: Nike, U of O, and the Dead are dropping a killer triple-branded Air Max 90. The silhouette was selected to commemorate the band’s shows at the stadium in 1990. Those hoping for a furry throwback to 2020’s Nike SB Grateful Dunks, however, best adjust their expectations. This new colorway fuses Duck pride with Dead lore, wrapping a white AM90 upper in a tie-dyed mudgard and decking the tongue, sole, and Air Max casing with U of O green and yellow. The sockliner of the right shoe features the University of Oregon logo, while the left shoe sports Grateful Dead bears. As a finishing touch, the shoes feature a rubber hangtag of the iconic Dead bears.
Alongside the sneakers, the Swoosh teamed up with collegiate apparel giants Class Trip for an apparel collection of sweats, hoodies, tees, and everything in between. The clothes, as you’d expect, include plenty of tie-dye, dancing bears, and the band’s Steal Your Face logo alongside a healthy dose of Ducks branding. The collaboration will culminate on October 25, when Autzen Stadium hosts its first ‘Grateful Ducks’ Night for the football team’s matchup against Wisconsin.
Before that, though, the full Grateful Dead x Oregon Ducks x Nike collection will drop on October 23 via Class Trip’s website, with a second drop on October 24 via SNKRS and select retailers. The Air Max 90 retails for $145.
