There’s a lot to love about professional golf—the rivalries, the upsets, the satisfying thwack of a perfect tee shot—but on-course style hasn’t always been high on the list. This weekend’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black on Long Island, however, will receive a serious sartorial boost thanks to Loro Piana. In addition to providing outfits for Team Europe, the quiet luxury go-to is also dropping an extremely fresh capsule collection of high-end golf gear for the occasion.
For those who don’t spend their Sundays with one eye on the Golf Channel, the biannual Ryder Cup is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, in which a team of the best golfers in Europe squares off against a dozen of their American counterparts (who will also look plenty smart in Polo Ralph Lauren). In contrast to the relatively subdued atmosphere of most pro golf events, it’s a notoriously rowdy affair, with all of the chanting, flag waving, and heckling of a World Cup match transplanted to the manicured greens of some of the world’s best golf courses.

“Winning the Ryder Cup on foreign soil is hard,” explains Luke Donald, Team Europe’s Captain, who helped to trounce the Americans at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy. “The crowd is also very partisan. New York fans in particular love their sport, so we expect them to cheer hard for their team.” In addition to a stacked roster of talent, including Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood, the European Team is relying on Loro Piana, their official uniform supplier since 2023, to deck them out in style.

Not only is Loro Piana providing Team Europe with an impeccable lineup of golf shirts, sweater vests, and quarter-zips, they’ve created a different uniform for every day of the three-day event: sky blue for Friday, reddish-brown “kummel”—a.k.a. the Milanese brand’s signature hue—for Saturday, and classic white complemented by the yellow and blue of the European flag for Sunday. “A good uniform can be an underrated part of playing in a team—it’s something that can help bond you together,” Donald says. “I’ve been lucky to have seen the designs from an early stage and provided my input, and I’m really happy with how the team will look both on and off the course.”

For those watching from the sidelines, Loro Piana also recently unveiled a capsule collection of golf gear that’s every bit on par (so to speak) with the rest of their famously refined catalog. Available exclusively at the brand’s boutiques in Paris, Milan, and NYC, the lineup ranges from Sea Island cotton polo sweaters and wide pleated trousers to technical bomber jackets and—naturally—a $565 black baseball cap. Along with Team Europe’s elevated uniform, it’s just the latest indicator that golf has entered its fashion era.
