Tatiana Suarez’s placement on UFC Fight Night 259 might’ve bothered many fans, but not her.
Suarez (10-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) takes on fellow former strawweight title challenger Amanda Lemos (15-4-1 MMA, 9-4 UFC) on Saturday’s Noche UFC prelims at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. With newcomer Santiago Luna taking on Quang Le in the main card opener, many have argued that Suarez vs. Lemos should have a higher spot. However, the formerly unbeaten fighter isn’t losing sleep over it.
“I don’t really mind where I am on the card,” Suarez told MMA Junkie Radio. “I can be the first fight of the card, it doesn’t really matter to me. I just like to fight. I show up regardless of what time it is. I’m going to show up there, and I’m going to go do my thing, and I’m going to get to do what I love to do so, I don’t really care where it is on the card.”
Suarez will look to rebound from her title loss to Zhang Weili at UFC 312 in February. She’s a pretty heavy favorite over Lemos but isn’t underestimating the Brazilian powerhouse.
“I think I’m going to go in there, I’m going to manage my distance, and really go out there and try to win every single exchange, just fight smart,” Suarez said. “I think she’s a great opponent. I think she’s well rounded everywhere, and I just look forward to implementing my game plan and doing what I’ve set out to do. I think it’ll be a great fight, and I look forward to it.”
