    India is a land that presents diverse food choices and wholesome breakfast dishes that are considered perfect to kickstart the day on a refreshing note. From chai-rusk and steamed cakes to hearty poha, poori, semiya and Pongal, these are some of the breakfast choices which are often observed in nearly every Indian household. Although we have observed a sharp rise of millets in the menu after weight watchers and health enthusiasts started enjoying this ancient grain in every dish. While the foodies are looking forward to a healthier approach, it is important to know that there are still some dangerous food choices that you shouldn’t incorporate into the menu. We have rounded up a list of 5 unhealthy or dangerous breakfast choices that are causing you more harm than you can even imagine.

    White bread sandwiches may seem like a quick breakfast option or fix, but they are loaded with refined flour and offer less nutritional value. Consuming too white bread can easily contribute to obesity and diabetes obesity which surely takes a toll on health. With hardly any fibre, they fail to keep you full and push you towards overeating. Whole grain alternatives are healthier and provide lasting energy throughout the day.

    Cold cut

    Cold cuts, often considered a convenient option for breakfast, come with several disadvantages. These processed meats are high in sodium, preservatives, and unhealthy fats, which are definitely not a great fit for regular consumption. Though seems a quick and effortless solution for breakfast, cold cuts provide more harm than nourishment. Instead, you can opt for fresh, lean protein options for a healthy breakfast.

    Although you can find a variety of cereal options available all across, especially the flavoured or frosted ones. These flavourful cereals are delicious on the palate but are packed with sugar and artificial additives that can cause blood sugar spikes and offer minimal fibre or protein. This can also lead to hunger soon. Choosing low-sugar or wholegrain cereal or oats with fruits is considered a better and nutritious option.

    As poha is considered a popular Indian breakfast, it can lack protein and essential nutrients it is prepared without veggies or nuts. The dish is considered high in carbs, and consuming it in excessive amounts can cause stomach ache, discomfort or iron toxicity. Although the dish is loaded with benefits linked to weight loss and more, consuming it in moderation can offer great results.

    Fried Indian breakfast is never a great choice to kickstart the day, and consuming dishes like samosa and chole bhature is tasty on the palate but heavy on oil, calories and refined flour too. Regular intake of these fried food dishes can cause weight gain, sluggishness and digestive issues, which can come with long-term benefits. It’s better to reserve them for occasional indulgence.
