Stephanie Vaquer defeated Iyo Sky at WWE Wrestlepalooza on Saturday to win the Women’s World Championship for the first time.
At Evolution back in July, Vaquer won a star-studded battle royal to earn a Women’s World Championship match at Clash in Paris.
Later that same night, Naomi cashed in her Money in the Bank contract during the main event between Sky and Rhea Ripley, and she became the new women’s world champion in the process.
A Triple Threat rematch between Naomi, Sky and Ripley was set for SummerSlam with the winner moving on to defend against Vaquer at Clash in Paris, and Naomi was victorious once again.
The stage was set for Vaquer and Naomi in Paris, however, just a couple of weeks before the show, Naomi announced that she was pregnant, forcing her to relinquish the title.
Raw general manager Adam Pearce informed Vaquer that her title match at Clash in Paris was off, but he later announced a new location and opponent in the form of Vaquer vs. Sky at Wrestlepalooza.
Prior to Naomi vacating the title, she had been set to defend it against Sky on an episode of Raw, which made Iyo a natural fit to oppose La Primera on Saturday.
While Vaquer held the NXT Women’s Championship and Women’s North American Championship simultaneously during her relatively short run in NXT, Wrestlepalooza represented her first opportunity to win singles gold on the main roster.
Meanwhile, Sky entered Wrestlepalooza having already held the Women’s World Championship and WWE Women’s Championship one time each in her career.
The dichotomy made for a highly intriguing match at Wrestlepalooza, and in the end, Vaquer came out on top to win her first women’s world title on the WWE main roster.
