Pittsburgh Steelers DL Derrick Harmon’s rookie season is off to a rough start after suffering a knee sprain in the preseason finale — but veteran defenders T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward are helping him overcome this setback.
A few days after the injury, Harmon addressed the situation for the first time with the media — sharing how he plans to attack the rehab but, more importantly, the advice he received from Watt and Heyward.
“Really, just don’t get too much in my head,” Harmon told reporters on Saturday, echoing the message from Watt and Heyward. “Injury is part of this game and at this level, it’s part of what we do. So, just trying to keep my head up, and keep me mentally prepared, and mentally focused.”
Both Watt and Heyward are certainly no strangers to injuries and likely understand the noise that follows these major setbacks — making them the perfect pair of veterans to keep Harmon’s spirits up in this challenging time.
Regarding Harmon’s return date, HC Mike Tomlin categorized the young rookie as “week-to-week” — an arguable best-case scenario considering the frightening scene of him being carted off the field last Thursday.
