The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a heat advisory for parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, effective on Tuesday from 10 am to 7 pm.
Areas under the advisory include Ventura County Beaches, Ventura County Inland Coast, Central Ventura County Valleys, Malibu Coast, Los Angeles, Palos Verdes Hills, the Santa Monica Mountains recreational areas, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, and the San Fernando Valley.
According to NWS, temperatures are expected to reach up to 93 degrees, creating a high risk of heat-related illnesses for sensitive populations such as young children, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and anyone active outdoors.
What Residents Should Do
During the heat wave, residents are advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and to seek shelter in air-conditioned areas whenever possible. People are encouraged to check on relatives, neighbours, and anyone vulnerable to the extreme heat.
It is important to never leave young children or pets alone in vehicles, as temperatures inside cars can quickly become dangerous. Outdoor activities should be limited or moved to cooler times of the day, and residents should be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, including dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat, and confusion.
For those working outside, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Anyone showing signs of heat-related illness should be moved to a cool, shaded spot immediately, and emergency services should be called at 911 if symptoms worsen.
