    From Isaac Job, Uyo

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt and arrested two suspects while firearms were recovered from them along Factory Road, Afia Nsit, in Eket Local Government Area of the state.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Timfon John, and made available to journalists in Uyo, said the suspects attempted to abduct their victim along Afia Nsit road in Eket, but some concerned neighbours sent a distress call to the police, who immediately swung into action and mobilised to the scene.

John said the victim was rescued and narrated how the abductors trailed and intercepted him at the gate of his house as four men attempted to force their way to open the door of his vehicle.

She said the victim further told the police that the commotion and prompt arrival of policemen caused the kidnappers to escape from the scene of the crime.

    The statement reads in part:
“On August 16, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., operatives of the command in a joint operation successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a cache of weapons.

“The police command received a distress call from a concerned citizen about a suspected kidnapping on Factory Road, Afia Nsit, Eket. Operatives immediately mobilised and responded to the scene.

“The victim (name withheld) was rescued. He told the police he was about to drive into his home when four men attempted to force their way into his vehicle.

“The commotion and prompt arrival of the joint team caused the assailants to flee the scene.”

John said the police chased the abductors, leading to the arrest of two suspects, namely Okon Edem Okon, who lives in Oyoku, Urue-Offong/Oruko LGA, and his partner Emmanuel Bassey, a resident of Udung-Uko LGA.

She said firearms were recovered during a search in an uncompleted building around the bush in the vicinity.

“Following the arrest, operatives conducted a further search of an uncompleted building in a nearby bush, where they recovered a sack bag containing a significant cache of weapons and other items.

    The recovered items include:
    – One AK-47 rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition and 3 magazines,
    – One assault rifle with 52 rounds of ammunition and 3 magazines,
    – One pump-action shotgun with 6 live cartridges.

    Other items recovered were:
    – One Redmi 14C phone,
    – A head warmer, charms, and a pair of black rubber sandals.

“Efforts are ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects,” she said.
