From Noah Ebije, Kaduna
Kaduna State Police Command has invited the Senator representing Kaduna Central zone, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman over allegations of threat to life and false claims levelled against him by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
The invitation was conveyed in a letter signed by the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, Rabiu Muhammad, following a petition submitted by Governor Sani through the state Ministry of Justice.
According to the letter, the lawmaker is expected to appear before the CP at the command headquarters on Monday, September 1, to respond to the allegations.
The governor accused the Senator of making false and injurious statements capable of inciting unrest and undermining peace and security in the state.
The letter of invitation read in part:”Re-threat to life, false and injurious allegations against His Excellency governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
“This is to inform you that Kaduna state police command is in receipt of a formal letter of complaint levelled against your humble-self by his Excellency the executive Governor of kaduna state through the ministry of justice, Kaduna state in respect to the underlined offences highlighted above
“You are kindly requested to appear in person to the commissioner of police Kaduna state command on Monday 1st September to respond to the said allegations. Your cooperation in this regard is highly appreciated, please”.
Daily Sun noted that the latest development added a new twist to the political face-off between governor Uba Sani and the lawmaker.
Few weeks ago, Senator Usman had petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague, accusing Governor Sani of political persecution and abuse of state institutions during the August 16 by-elections in Kaduna State.
In the ICC petition, filed on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the by-election, the Senator alleged that security agencies, including the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), were deployed to arrest opposition figures and confiscate party funds.
He claimed that over 25 PDP stakeholders, including zonal leaders, women mobilisers, and a serving lawmaker, were unlawfully detained on election day, while ₦26 million meant for logistics was seized.
Senator Usman argued that the actions amounted to political persecution and suppression of democratic participation, urging the ICC to investigate and establish criminal liability against the governor.
However, neither Governor Sani nor Senator Usman has made any public comment on the fresh police invitation as of the time of filing this report.
