    • Vows to return Osun to progressive government

    From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State to remain calm over purported plans by Governor Ademola Adeleke to join the party.

Rumours of Adeleke’s plan to join the APC and secure an automatic ticket have caused fear among members of the party in the state, even as two senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), defected to the APC at the weekend.

Oyebamiji, a governorship aspirant, allayed the fears of APC members, saying that the leadership of the party is in control of the situation.

Speaking on Saturday during his consultation in Obokun and Oriade Local Government Areas of Ijesa-North Federal Constituency, Oyebamiji said the party is committed to enthroning a progressive government come 2026, assuring that nothing can destabilise the structure already built.

He said, “Though our leader, Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, is coming to tell you everything as regards the defection rumour of the current Governor, Ademola Adeleke, into our revered party – APC, he sent me to tell you that there is no cause for alarm. He asked me to let you know that there is nothing to fear about. Our leaders are in charge and no reason to panic. The leaders are in control. No one will reap the fruit of your labour.

“As regards the councils’ imbroglio, our Minister is doing excellently well to ensure that justice prevails no matter whose ox is gored. Our councils are in the control of our elected chairmen and councillors, and by the grace of God, they will be in control till we return to government come 2026,” Oyebamiji said.

He listed his achievements in the positions held in the past, saying that he has contributed meaningfully to the economy of the state as both Managing Director, Osun State Investment Company Limited, and Finance Commissioner.

He appealed to members of the party to consider him as the governorship candidate to enable him to return the state to a progressive government.

Earlier, the former Secretary of the party during the administration of Chief Bisi Akande, Hon Tunji Adesokun, applauded Oyebamiji’s tremendous contributions to the growth, development, and progress of the party thus far, describing him as the “head that the cap fits.”

Adesokun, who spoke on behalf of all the leaders of the party in Obokun Local Government, acknowledged the rare expertise that Oyebamiji brought to bear while serving the state in two major offices, saying his antecedents are a testament to his competence and charisma to lead the state.

“I don’t just follow an aspirant blindly, I do so by personal conviction, and I am convinced by Oyebamiji’s impeccable track record of excellence, humility, philanthropy, and outstanding leadership qualities,” Adesokun said.

In their separate remarks, former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Nathaniel Agunbiade, Obokun APC Leader, Otunba Jumoke Ogunkeyede, former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Rufus Oluwatayo, Hon Nasiru Komolafe, and Chief Emiola Ogunsanya extolled Oyebamiji’s charismatic qualities and stellar performance while serving in the state, just as they expressed confidence in his capacity to run the affairs of the state when elected governor come 2026.
