Orry faces backlash for using transphobic slur
Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry, is the internet’s favourite. While he enjoys an immense following on social media, this time he faced extreme backlash for using a casteist slur on Instagram. Following the backlash, Orry removed the video. In the now-deleted clip, the Mumbai-based content creator recorded two transgender women, who were reportedly actors, playfully fighting on a reality show.
Orry slammed for transphobic slur
Orry’s controversial caption read, “POV: you attended a comedy show and 2 chakkas get into a quarrel behind you. But how can she slap (laughing emoji).” Netizens criticised him for his choice of words and accused him of being ‘insensitive’. Chakka is a derogatory word, used as a slang term for transgender.
Netizens react
Netizens reacted to Orry’s transphobic slur. One wrote, “This is EMBARRASSING, Orry! Using a slur that’s used daily to demean a community is LOW.” Another person slammed him by saying, “When you benefit from queer culture and then mock it — that’s hypocrisy at its peak.” “When you dress up like a woman, it’s called fashion. But when others do it, you use slurs. That’s not funny; that’s cruel,” read another comment. Slamming Orry with a long comment, one user wrote, “This is a new low. I’m sure no one will care about this in 2 days and you will be back to your business, but I sincerely pray for your downfall. Your senseless rich bratty content was okay as long as it wasn’t offending anyone’s sentiments. Make all the fun you want staying in your own lane, but creating such dehumanising content in the name of humour was unnecessary. Really, what was the need for it? Could you not have just moved on with your day without posting this, knowing very well that it would mock and hurt someone? What’s even more disgusting and insulting is that you’re liking the comments, continuing to post stuff even after seeing all the outrage. Shows how less you care. This is shameful and sad. And look at all those celebrities still continuing to interact with him on his recent reels. Shows how no-one really cares. Really really sad.”
Rajiv Adatia vs Orry
Orry gained popularity on social media as a content creator. In October, he landed in controversy when he attended Falguni Pathak’s concert and said, ‘Falguni peacock singing on stage’. He also addressed Lata Mangeshkar as ‘Lata Mangeshwari’. Bigg Boss 15 contestant Rajiv Adatia criticised him. Orry made nasty remarks about Rajiv’s looks and appearance. He posted, “Why does this man look like he ate 5 Orrys and then poured a bottle of cheap foundation and fake tan on his face.” Adatia gave it back by writing, “Didn’t want to reply to this idiot but thinks he needs a reality check! Firstly Orry I feel sorry for you! What have you achieved in life than to put on your hand on peoples chest and take photos? Do you know the definition of working hard because you won the award of talking shit! You are not even the mentally leauge of Many! You think you and hip and call with your phone cases and shaven chest! My dear, integrity, morals, values and character make you a human! All which you don’t have! Stop giving yourself so much importance my dear! Never utter a legends name dude! Instead of apologising you attacking me for calling you out! No please go and take some more pics with your Minions! Grow up and start acting age! (by the way the foundation is Charlotte Tillbury).”
Besides his social media presence, Orry is often seen with Bollywood actresses like Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Khushi Kapoor and others at parties.
