In the world of combat sports, all eyes are on tonight’s Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford boxing super fight. Yet before that gets underway on Netflix, fight fans will be treated to the annual Noche UFC event—the MMA promotion’s celebration of Mexican Independence Day.
This year’s card is admittedly a little less stacked than the first two iterations, both of which included title fights. However, it’s got a fantastic main event, with Brazilian-Mexican contender Diego Lopes looking to rebound from a failed featherweight title bid against Alexander Volkanovski opposite Brazil’s Jean Silva. The pair are two of the most exciting fighters in MMA right now, and the expectation is that their imminent collision will be a thriller.
Outside the main event, there are just a few ranked fighters on the bill. That includes bantamweight veteran Rob Font, who will attempt to defend his No. 9 spot against David Martínez. Earlier on the card, we’ll also get a clash of ranked strawweights, as former title challengers Tatiana Suarez and Amanda Lemos square off.
Despite the lack of ranked fighters on the bill, there are some familiar names on the lineup. That includes former interim middleweight title challenger Kelvin Gastelum who will take on Dustin Stoltzfus at a catchweight after another grievous scale fail. Lightweight veterans Diego Ferreira and Anthony Hernandez are also set to meet in what could be a fun scrap.
It all kicks off at 3:00 pm ET. Keep it locked here for complete results of the card, and the real winners and losers of the evening.
