- India beat Australia by five wickets
Jemimah Rodrigues became the toast of the nation after playing one of the greatest ODI innings of all time to power India to the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 after beating Australia by five wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Rodrigues made a knock of 127 runs in 134 balls and stayed unbeaten to power India to the highest successful chase in Women’s ODI cricket history. India went past Australia’s total of 338, marking the first instance of a 300+ target being chased in an ODI World Cup knockout game for either men or women.
While Jemimah has earned praise from across the country, a seven-year-old post by Nasser Hussain went viral on social media. The former England captain had predicted that the right-hander would be a star for the country. The post was made when she was just 17 and Hussain was visiting Mumbai and had a practice session with her.
“Remember the name… Jemimah Rodrigues.. did some throw downs with her today .. she’s going to be a star for India,” wrote Hussain on X.
The post was made by Hussain just a couple of months after Jemimah’s ODI and T20I debut for India in February 2018.
Jemimah Rodrigues’ Maiden World Cup Ton
Jemimah scored the first-ever World Cup ton of her career in the marquee clash. This was only the third ton she reached the three-figure mark for India. The star batter is playing her debut World Cup, having been dropped from the squad for the 2022 edition in New Zealand. Even in the ongoing tournament, she was left out of the playing XI in the league stage game against England. Although, she has turned her campaign around since being promoted to number three, having earlier also played a quick-fire knock of 74 against New Zealand in the virtual quarter-final.
