Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 preview
Charriere (20-11-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has traded wins and losses since entering the UFC, and comes in on the heels of a loss to Nathaniel Wood in March. Charriere hasn’t lost back-to-back fights since 2021, which sparked a four-fight streak that led to his UFC debut in 2023. The French fighter will aim to get back in the win column as a comfortable favorite. … Landwehr (18-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) has also bounced in and out of the winner’s circle of his last four fights, and is also entering off a loss. In December, he was finished by Doo Ho Choi, which followed a first-round TKO of Jamall Emmers last March.
Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 expert pick, prediction
In what is arguably the best fight on the entire card, Nate Landwehr will welcome Morgan Charriere to his home state.
As someone who has been interviewing and following Landwehr’s career since his M-1 days, it’s awesome to have seen Nate “The Train” become such a fan favorite for the wars he tends to bring out of his opponents. And though he was on the receiving end in his last fight with the talented Doo Ho Choi, it’s important to note that Landwehr was dealing with a myriad of issues, ranging from illness to at least one broken hand.
That said, Charriere can be a handful for any fighter to deal with, healthy or not.
A quietly experienced regional player who sustained a plethora of deceptively close losses to noted fighters, Charriere’s career has sometimes been a frustrating follow.
Although you can argue that a decent amount of Charriere’s decision losses could have easily gone his way, the Frenchman’s propensity to play his opponent’s game and not punctuate rounds has undoubtedly been a source of his shortcomings.
Don’t get me wrong, Charriere is the deserved favorite in this spot given their potential career trajectories and the fact that Landwehr has been blown out by lesser competition before.
However, if Charriere comes short of anything but a finish or an outright outclassing in the first frame, then “The Last Pirate” will likely find himself falling into Landwehr’s favored style of fight.
Even though Charriere is more than capable of winning a war, I’ll take a flier on Landwehr to survive some early scares and feed off the crowd en route to securing some key moments down the stretch.
The pick is Landwehr to come out on the right side of a greasy split decision on the scorecards.
