Micah Parsons Sends Fearless Message to Jerry Jones Amid Cowboys Contract Controversy originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Dallas Cowboys will enter the 2025 NFL season with a new outlook after Brian Schottenheimer took the reins of the team this offseason and former coach Mike McCarthy announced his intention to focus on the 2026 hiring cycle.
The playing status, and contract status of superstar linebacker Micah Parsons have become hot topics both in the Dallas area and nationwide as Parsons looks to bounce back from an injury plagued 2024 season.
On Tuesday, Parsons was surrounded by media at the Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, California, giving him the opportunity to send a clear message to the team’s owner.
The Cowboys linebacker was asked about his contract situation heading toward the 2025 fall season which opened the floodgates for Parsons to speak out.
“Micah, how would you characterize how close you are to getting something done?” Parsons was asked.
“…We’ll see,” Parsons replied.
He was then asked whether he’s felt discouraged by a lack of a new deal heading into the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.
“You see a lot of people around the league who are taken care of, you wish you had something, you know, that same type of energy,” Parsons continued.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently defended Cowboys ownership’s decision not to extend the fan favorite and multiple-year Defensive Player of the Year contender, noting the injury risks involved.
“I want to be here,” Parsons added according to The Athletic reporter Jon Machota. “At the end of the day, they sign the checks. Let’s see if they want me to be here,” he continued.
“I’m doing this for myself and my teammates. This isn’t for Jerry,” he added according to Machota.
