Mathys Tel on the verge of joining Tottenham on a permanent basis

Multiple outlets report that Mathys Tel is on the verge of moving from Bayern Munich to Tottenham on a permanent basis.

Tel spent the second half of the season on loan at Spurs as they were able to win the Europa League title, but finished 17th in the league.

Bayern and the Premier League side are already in advanced negotiations in the deal with the French under-21, set to move for a fee of around €35m plus the €10m loan fee. Sky Germany reports that despite changing managers, new Tottenham coach Thomas Frank still wants to keep Tel at the club.

Tel’s original loan at a €55m buy option included, but Tottenham were able to negotiate it down.

Since joining from Rennes in 2022, Tel has made 83 appearances for Bayern and scored 16 goals. The 20-year-old’s talent was clear during his time at the Allianz Arena, but he was never given significant opportunities under Vincent Kompany or Thomas Tuchel, even though Tel was a good option to play as a backup to Harry Kane.
