Milwaukee Brewers fans pay tribute to the late Bob Uecker
The Milwaukee Brewers honored the life of the legendary Bob Uecker on Sunday Aug. 24 at American Family Field.
A ball in the stands seems to always bring out the worst in some folks. Exhibit A is the woman in a Philadelphia Phillies jersey as she demanded a home run ball from a young boy in the stands at a game in Miami.
Her behavior at Marlins Park on Sept. 5 quickly went viral and she became the subject of many memes.
The woman was skewered online for her outburst that included being aggressive toward the boy’s father, who scored the home run ball for his son. But the woman felt it was hers and confronted the dad and wouldn’t stop until she got the ball.
Meanwhile, others focused on the boy and his family, who were also Phillies fans.
That included Marquette University graduate, businessman and TV personality Marcus Lemonis.
The 1995 Marquette University grad, who is the chairman and CEO of Camping World, Good Sam Enterprises, and Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., wrote on X after the game that he wants to “send this young man and his family to the MLB World Series on me.”
And that’s not all.
“Oh and you just won an RV as well,” Lemonis wrote.
He used the hashtag “DadofYearWinsThatone”
Here’s more on the incident and the response:
Who is the woman at the Phillies game?
The woman who ended up with the ball after all the kerfuffle likely won’t be voted “fan of the year” by anyone in Philly or across Major League Baseball.
The woman was among multiple people scrambling for a home run ball by Harrison Bader in the top of the fourth inning of the Phillies-Marlins game.
She was wearing a white Phillies jersey.
A dad in the same section ended up with it and walked back over to his family. The woman, however, must have felt the ball belonged to her. She hopped over a row of seats and marched over to the dad and family. The entire incident was captured by TV cameras.
She came in hot, first grabbing the dad’s arm while pointing at his chest. She was causing a scene but that didn’t appear to matter to her. After some back and forth, the dad clearly had enough and handed the ball over to her from his son’s glove.
The woman had her ball. But she didn’t win the moment with her outburst.
Phillies fan gets autographed bat from Harrison Bader after game
While the boy didn’t leave with Bader’s home run ball, he left with much more.
A Marlins staff member came over to check on the boy, who was celebrating his upcoming birthday, saying what happened to him was not OK, and handed him a gift bag.
Later, the boy met Bader and even received an autographed bat from the Phillies slugger.
