    • Orders police, others to fish out perpetrators

    From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the brutal lynching of 12 travellers, including wedding guests and close relatives of the groom, in Plateau State. The victims were en route from Zaria in Kaduna State to Jos when the tragic attack occurred.

Describing the killings as “unacceptable and barbaric,” President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives. “This heinous action is utterly unacceptable. It is barbaric and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he stated.

In a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President, directed the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to collaborate closely with other security and intelligence agencies to ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible. “I have instructed the Nigerian Police Force to work hand in hand with all relevant security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice. We will not allow this dastardly act to go unpunished,” he affirmed.

President Tinubu also called on the Plateau State government to take urgent and decisive measures to break the vicious cycle of violence plaguing the region. “The Government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence. The state government must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences,” he urged.

Highlighting the importance of security and freedom of movement, the President highlighted, “Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear.”

In a message of condolence, President Tinubu commiserated with the families of the victims as well as the people and government of Kaduna State. “My heartfelt sympathies go out to the bereaved families and the entire people of Kaduna State. We stand with you in this difficult time,” he said.
