The Kano State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the idea of endorsing any candidate outside the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the media on Thursday, July 31, the party condemned the situation in Osun State, where the governor and state party leadership endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, for the 2027 polls.
The state party chairman, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, who spoke at the end of a leadership meeting in Kano, also distanced the state PDP from breakaway members who formed a political coalition under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He explained that the coalition does not represent their interests and urged members to remain focused on the party’s objectives and be vigilant against being misguided or misled.
“We categorically reject any attempt to undermine or divide our party. We affirm that all members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kano State are solidly committed to the party and its ideals,” he added.
Kibiya stressed that only an insignificant number of party members in the state had joined the coalition but assured that their number was too small to affect the fortunes of the party in the years ahead.
He added that the membership of the party in the state was intact, stating that they are resolute in supporting the PDP’s mission and vision for a better Nigeria.
“We emphasise the importance of registering with the PDP as the best option for the future of Kano State and Nigeria. We believe that our party is the vehicle for positive change, and we encourage all citizens of Nigeria to join us in this journey,” he stated.
