Jon Jones is facing more legal issues after an alleged hit-and-run incident in February.
According to online court records, Jones is facing a second case filed June 30 by responding officer Andrew Romero after allegedly fleeing the scene of a vehicle accident (h/t MMA Fighting). The charges listed on the new criminal complaint include “Leaving the Scene of an Accident (No Great Bodily Harm or Death)” and “Use ot Telephone to Terrify, Intimidate, Threaten, Harass, Annoy or Offend.”
Jones was already facing a charge for leaving the scene in a complaint filed June 16 by responding officer Kevin Gonzales. Jones has entered a plea of not guilty for that complaint, and has a bench trial scheduled Aug. 14 with assigned judge Jill Martinez.
According to the report from MMA Fighting, Jones’ attorney Christopher Dodd has already filed a motion to dismiss the duplicate charge, although the assigned judge, Brittany Maldonado Malott, has not yet made a ruling. Jones currently has a bond arraignment scheduled for Aug. 4.
Jones was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident in Albuquerque on Feb. 21, in which he fled the scene after a vehicle accident, leaving a half-naked woman behind inside the car. The woman told police Jones was driving the vehicle and stated they both were drinking before leaving his home. During the interaction with police, the woman called a man who sounded like Jones and had him speak to a responding officer. The man never directly identified himself, but made threatening remarks.
“My brothers, they kill people for way less,” the voice stated. “If something happens to me, dude, she’s (the woman in the car) flat and dead.”
In a since-deleted post on X, Jones appeared to implicate himself as the voice on the phone. Full bodycam footage of the incident was released by Albuquerque Police.
Jones, a former two-division UFC champion, confirmed he was walking away from fighting after UFC CEO Dana White announced his notice to retire during a post-event press conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. However, Jones has recently stated he has re-entered the UFC’s testing pool after U.S. president Donald Trump announced a proposed UFC event to take place on the White House grounds, which piqued his interest to fight again.
