John Campbell and Shai Hope shone with the bat as West Indies put on a total of 390 on the board in their second innings. Once again, it looked like WI’s innings would fold early, but the senior duo took on India’s bowling attack. Campbell scored 115 off 199 balls. Hope ended his century drought and breached the 100-run mark in Tests for the first time in 8 years.
The experienced batsmen added 177 runs for the third wicket to take WI’s score past the 200-run mark. They created history and etched their name in history books during their partnership.
They now own the record of the highest third-wicket partnership for WI against India in this century. The overall record for the highest 3rd-wicket partnership against India belongs to Alvin Kalicharan and Viv Richards. They put on a 220-run partnership in 1976 in Bridgetown.
West Indies set 121-run target in Delhi
WI’s batters continued to frustrate the Indian bowlers and set a target of 121. Captain Roston Chase scored 40 off 72 balls. Justin Greaves remained unbeaten on 50 off 85 balls while Jayden Seales scored 32 off 67 balls. They added 79 runs for the 10th wicket.
Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah scalped 3 wickets each. Mohammed Siraj dismissed two batters while Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scalped one wicket each.
India lose Yashasvi Jaiswal early
India lost the prized wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the chase. The opening batsman departed for 8 off 7 balls while trying to clear the ropes. Sai Sudharsan has joined Rahul in the middle.
A win here will see India whitewash 2-0. A play of more than 10 overs is left and India will aim to complete the chase early. The home team won the opening Test match by an innings and 140 runs.
