Usually, a JJJJound sneaker picks a base color and builds from there subtly, utilizing slightly tweaked shades and deliberate color blocking to create complex dynamics. The brand’s famous for agonizing over just which shade of beige is the right shade of beige (and it usually gets it right, making all the hard work pay off in the end). This time around, the collaboration consists of two shoes, one of which sticks a bit more to tradition. That pair uses a black base for the upper and different swatches of dark gray and black, the pops of color coming from minimal detailing up and down the lacelock. For the second pair, the brands get funky with it, smattering the shoe’s sole and upper alike in bold blue and bright yellows that crisscross one another. Flecks of black and red also adorn the shoe.
It’s a dope shoe, a high mark for Salomon collaborations at large and the standout JJJJound sneaker in a year that’s been packed with them. Was it intentionally a tribute to one of the most iconic superhero costumes of all time? Probably not. But don’t let that stop you from lacing them up and sticking plastic knives between your fingers like it’s elementary school again.
The JJJJound x Salomon XT-6 ($190) goes on sale globally on August 8th.
