What does Jayden Daniels’ private quarterback coach foresee in Daniels career?

Ryan Porter was a guest on Al Galdi’s show on Monday, discussing the origin of his coaching Jayden Daniels when the latter was twelve years old. Tuesday, Commanders Wire told the story of how “Jay” Daniels first met Porter and convinced Porter to begin training his twelve-year-old son, Jayden. Today, we look into what Porter sees for Daniels in his upcoming season(s) with the Commanders. Hint: Porter has huge confidence in Daniels to accomplish great things.

Here are a few of the startling statements Porter expressed about what he sees in Daniels and in the NFL:

    • “I think they (Kliff Kingsbury) did a fantastic job helping Jayden create a rhythm. But I also think, Washington, you guys have a generational talent at the quarterback position, who is mature beyond his years. He walks up to the line of scrimmage, has a plan, and executes his plan. He understands, if you can’t protect it, you can’t throw it. He is not a greedy quarterback.”
    • “We all understand there is one defense designed to stop an offense and that is man coverage and bring pressure. If you are going to play zone coverage, Jayden does not get bored. Quarterbacks get bored and want to show their arm and throw the intermediate and deep ball, deep digs, whatever it is. They want to throw a deep post, take a shot. Jayden will take what the defense gives him, every single time.”
    • “He will win first down, put the team in good situations, to where you are now in third and manageable instead of third and ten. It is very rare in quarterbacks, let alone in young quarterbacks. That’s Jayden.”
    • “He (Jayden) calls me before every game on Sunday, and we talk for as little as a minute, to 5-7 minutes. We talk about how he is feeling, what are some things he did differently for that week of practice, what he expects from his opponent that week. Then I will tell him, “This is what I noticed last week…”
    • “To be honest, there is not much you have to critique with his game. I haven’t seen many better, and that is not even me being biased. I think he is eventually going to be a Jordan-esque type figure and he is a generational talent. I truly believe that. You guys got a good one.”
    • “Listen, I can’t take the credit. God placed him (Jayden) and his dad in my life at his very young age. I am just a small part of the journey. Everyone wants to talk to his trainer or high school coach. But guys, the secret sauce has been his father. His dad is very private, behind the scenes. I have witnessed it; I had front row seats for it. He and his dad are very much alike, very quiet. They want to share the spotlight; they don’t want the spotlight. That has been instilled in him.”
    • “I said it in college; I am saying it in the NFL. I said he was going to win the Heisman Trophy. I said he was going to be a first-round pick in the NFL. You guys, as long as he stays healthy, this is somebody that I think will win multiple NFL MVPs and will win a Super Bowl and will be a first-ballot NFL Hall of Famer. No question, it’s going to be fun to watch. You guys got a great one.”
