Call it a win-win.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton did not want to go into the 2025 season with one year and $14 million left on his contract. The Broncos, meanwhile, did not want to make a 29-year-old veteran one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.
So they reached a middle ground.
Denver’s front office agreed to terms on a four-year, $92 million contract extension on Monday, keeping quarterback Bo Nix’s favorite target with the team through the 2029 season. Sutton’s extension averages $23 million per season, which is tied for the 18th-most among NFL receivers. Not a bad deal for the Broncos.
Sutton’s $14 million for the 2025 season is guaranteed, and the team added an additional $27 million in guarantees, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Sutton will be happy to have $41 million total guaranteed. The Broncos, meanwhile, could hypothetically exit the deal in 2027 as his fully guaranteed salary expires after 2026, according to Klis.
So, everyone should be happy — including Bo Nix. Officially, Sutton is signed with Denver for the next five seasons. Realistically, he has two more years of fully guaranteed money, then we’ll see what happens in 2027. For now, it’s a win-win.
