Seeks support to chase kidnappers away
By Lateef Dada, Osogbo
The Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Chief Sunday Igboho, on Saturday paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to seek forgiveness.
Accompanied by his supporters, Adeyemo urged the Ooni to support him as he declared his readiness to chase kidnappers away from the bush in Yorubaland.
He also begged the monarch to help him in removing his name from the wanted list among other pending cases against him.
“I want you to forgive and forget whatever wrong I’ve done to you. You are my father and you can’t push me away. I know you’ve forgiven me judging by the reception I received when I got here.
“I’m here to further seek your help as you’ve been doing before. I am a wanted person, and I want you to help me clear my name from the wanted persons list.
“My account is frozen and I want you to assist me with that also. I want the embargo placed on my account to be lifted and I know you are the one who can do it for me.
“When I visited the Olowo of Owo, the monarch asked if I’d seen the Ooni, and I told him no. The monarch told me to come and see you as you are the overall authority.
“You held a summit recently. I was in Germany then, but I joined online, and you honoured me. After exiting the live programme, I burst into tears because I was overwhelmed.
“I told the person beside me that this is the same Ooni that I had once abused. At that moment, I knew you’re the true ‘Oodua’.
“I want you to keep working on the security issue in Yorubaland. The insecurity in the North and other parts of the country is creeping into Yorubaland.
“I want you to send us inside the bush and send all those kidnappers away. We have the capacity to protect our people. Oodua are not slaves to the Fulanis. I always tell people that Ooni is the head of all monarchs in Nigeria,” Adeyemo said.
Responding, the Ooni promised to intervene in his matter and ensure that he is cleared from the criminal cases hanging on his neck.
The monarch said, “I want to appreciate those of you who came with Sunday Igboho. I know most of you here.
“Some of you have abused me in the past, but whenever I saw your posts, I just laughed them off. I know you felt concerned but you can see the reason why I was preaching patience then.
“God has blessed Sunday Igboho a lot, and I thank God he didn’t die during his time of tribulation. I’m not angry at you because I’m the father of all. You are a brave man and our pride in Yorubaland and you will not die young.
“You wanted to come before now, but some of my people were against you coming to Ile-Ife, but I told them to leave you alone. You are from Ile-Ife and you are my child.
“The respect you earned here today is more than what money can quantify. What you are fighting for is not for you alone but for Yorubaland. We are going to ensure that your name is removed from the wanted list.
“Ile-Ife is the source of the universe, and no one wants peace and the development of Yorubaland more than I do.
“However, when you associate with those who don’t like you, you must look for a solution. Let’s do away with fighting, it will not bring any good development to Yorubaland. That is why I keep calm most of the time.
“I am a father, and I know that we can only achieve what we want through cooperation, and I know God will give us victory,” the Ooni said.
