India defeated West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series, and will look to seal a whitewash victory over the visitors with a victory in the second Test which begins from October 10 (Friday) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. For the, to achieve a big win, India need to field a strong playing XI. Two days before the match is set to take place, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has already confirmed what the Team India lineup would look like.
In the pre-match press conference, ten Doeschate said that they would field an unchanged playing XI in the second Test. He also emphasized on the fact, that they did not get a good look at Nitish Reddy in the last game, and hence, it will be a good opportunity for the all-rounder to showcase his skills.
“I’d say we’re unlikely to change the combination. One of the objectives, one of the sort of medium-term objectives, is to develop a seam bowling all-rounder for India. It’s very important when we go away on tours that we have that position coming. We didn’t get a very good look at Nitish last week, so I think it’s actually a very good opportunity to give him another go and not alter the balance of the team. We think he’s a fantastic seam bowling all-rounder,” ten Doeschate said.
More Game Time For Nitish Reddy?
Ryan ten Doeschate also highlighted that the focus would be on Nitish Reddy’s game time, and they would also look to develop his bowling.
“Nitish, I think he’s shown everyone in Australia just how good he is as a batter. The challenge for him is going to be to make sure that he gets game time in between the away series. Like I answered the first question, I think a series like this where you look at the combinations, it’s more important to look ahead and see how he gets game time and a chance to develop his bowling,”
