The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert over the circulation of counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets in Nigeria.
The agency disclosed that the product, which is falsely presented as being manufactured by Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, is an imitation of the company’s discontinued packaging.
According to NAFDAC, Promasidor officially stopped producing Cowbell “Our Milk” in September 2023 and replaced it with a new variant called Cowbell “Our Creamy Goodness.” “Despite this change, counterfeit versions of the old “Our Milk” brand have resurfaced in the market, bearing unauthorized use of Promasidor’s name, NAFDAC registration number, and packaging design.”
The agency warned that consuming counterfeit milk poses serious health risks; these dangers include exposure to toxic chemicals, unapproved additives, or diluted ingredients, which may result in foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, and in severe cases, death. Infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are said to be particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects.
It further disclosed that details of the fake product show that it is labeled as Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachet, with a purported production date of April 2025 and an expiry date of December 2028. NAFDAC stressed that these details are fraudulent and do not originate from Promasidor Nigeria Ltd.
The agency urged healthcare professionals, retailers, and consumers to be vigilant and immediately report any suspected cases of the counterfeit milk to the nearest NAFDAC office. Reports can also be made via the toll-free number 0800-162-3322 or by email to [email protected].
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and warned Nigerians to avoid purchasing or consuming the counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” product currently in circulation.
