Glamorgan’s Ben Kellaway has been called up by the England Lions for the tour of Australia this winter. Last year, Kellaway had made headlines for taking wickets while bowling both left-handed and right-handed for Glamorgan against Surrey. The 18-player Lions squad will be shadowing the England cricket team for the first two Ashes Tests Down Under.
Led by Andrew Flintoff, the Lions will face off against the main England side for a practice match in Australia in the lead up to the first Test in Perth in November. The Lions will also face Cricket Australia XI in Perth and the Australia A team in Brisbane alongside the first and second Ashes Tests.
After going viral last year for picking up wickets in the same over while bowling with different arms, Kellaway had said: “(The idea behind bowling with two arms is) how can I make myself stand-out within the game? An off-spinner batter is one of the most common skills out there. So it was a conversation around how I can become more unique and it’s come on a long way since I first let it out last year, but it’s still got a hell of a long way to go.”
Glamorgan has not had a player represent England since 2005. Wales, where Kellaway, hails from has also not produced too many cricketers for the England national team.
“It’s always been a goal for a youngster like me to represent England, if I can be a Welshman representing England and add my name to a list of not many, that will be a very proud thing,” he was quoted as telling English media.

The 21-year-old Kellaway, who recently completed a Biomedical Sciences degree at Cardiff University, has had a standout 2025 when it comes to cricket. He has had a breakthrough season with Glamorgan, where he made headlines not just for his ambidextrous bowling, but also with the bat: he scored his maiden County Championship century, staying unbeaten on 181 against Kent. He also racked up career-best bowling figures of 6/111 against Gloucestershire. Kellaway has scored 813 County Championship runs at an average of 54.20 while also taking 25 wickets at 32.12.
In July this year, Kellaway was signed as a Welsh Fire wildcard for The Hundred.
