Eggs With Salmonella, Mold in Ding Dongs, and More Pulled From Shelves

Three major food recalls were issued in the last two weeks of August.

Eggs produced by County Eggs, LLC, were recalled for possible Salmonella contamination after being connected to a 95-person outbreak.

Blue Bell Ice Cream pulled cartons from shelves over a dangerous labeling mix-up, and potential mold growth led to a recall of Hostess Ding Dongs.

Here’s what to check for in your fridge, freezer, and pantry.

Last Wednesday, Country Eggs, LLC recalled large brown eggs sold in two states due to possible Salmonella contamination, which can cause serious foodborne illness.

The recalled eggs were linked to a Salmonella outbreak affecting 95 people—18 of whom were hospitalized—across 14 states.

Check the label on your eggs. If they were sourced from County Eggs, LLC, toss them immediately and monitor for symptoms of Salmonella.

    Product Information

The recalled eggs were sold in dozen packs with the following information:

    • Product Name: Large brown cage-free “sunshine” or “omega-3 golden” yolk eggs
    • Brand Names: Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, and Nijiya Markets
    • Sell-By Dates: 7/1/25 through 9/18/25
    • Code: No. CA 7695

The eggs were also sold in bulk for food service under:

    • Product Name: Large Brown Sunshine Yolks (1/15 Dozen)
    • Brand Name: Country Eggs
    • Sell-By Dates: 7/1/25 through 9/18/25

    Affected States

The recalled eggs were distributed in two states:

However, 14 states reported Salmonella infections:

    • Arizona
    • California
    • Florida
    • Georgia
    • Hawaii
    • Iowa
    • Minnesota
    • North Carolina
    • Nebraska
    • New Mexico
    • Nevada
    • New York
    • Pennsylvania
    • Washington

In mid-August, Blue Bell Creameries, LP, recalled over 16,000 tubs of ice cream in 16 states due to a dangerous labeling error.

The brand’s Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream was accidentally packaged in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough cartons, which do not list the almond, walnut, and pecan allergens contained in the product. The mislabeled cartons still have a Moo-llennium Crunch lid.

Last Thursday, the FDA gave the recall the second-highest risk level. People with an allergy or sensitivity to the nuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the ice cream. If you can consume the nuts, the product is otherwise safe to eat.

The recalled ice cream was packaged in the wrong container but has the correct lid.

    Product Information

    • Product Name: Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream packaged in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough tubs
    • Size: Half gallon
    • Code: 061027524 (listed on the lid)

    Affected States

The recalled ice cream was sold at retailers in the following states and Puerto Rico:

    • Alabama
    • Arkansas
    • Florida
    • Georgia
    • Indiana
    • Illinois
    • Kansas
    • Kentucky
    • Louisiana
    • Mississippi
    • Missouri
    • New Mexico
    • Oklahoma
    • Tennessee
    • Texas
    • Virginia

Hostess Ding Dongs were pulled from shelves nationwide on Aug. 20 due to possible mold contamination.

A mechanical issue during production created conditions that may have allow for mold growth before the products’ expiration dates. J.M. Smucker Co., the parent company of Hostess, said it has resolved the problem.

If you have the recalled Ding Dongs, throw them away or return them for a refund or replacement.

The recalled Ding Dongs may develop mold before their expiration date.
