Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after appearing for questioning at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Tambuwal, a close political supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, arrived at the EFCC headquarters at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, where he was taken into custody.
Investigators questioned him about alleged illicit cash withdrawals worth ₦189 billion.
EFCC insiders revealed that the probe focuses on potential violations of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, with the transactions in question said to have occurred during his governorship between 2015 and 2023.
