Jimmy Crute vs. Ivan Erslan UFC Perth preview
Crute (13-4-2 MMA, 5-4-2 UFC) enters his third fight of the year on the heels of a first-round submission finish of Marcin Prachnio at UFC 318. Prior to that, he fought to a majority draw against Rodolfo Bellato at UFC 312. Crute’s last back-to-back wins came in 2020, a pair of first-round finishes of Michal Oleksiejczuk and Modestas Bukauskas. … Erslan (14-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) is still in search of his first UFC win. His debut last September was a split decision loss against Ion Cutelaba, and his sophomore appearance was a unanimous decision loss to Navajo Stirling. The two-fight skid marks the roughest stretch of Erslan’s career.
Jimmy Crute vs. Ivan Erslan UFC Perth expert pick, prediction
The co-main event in Australia features a light heavyweight affair between Jimmy Crute and Ivan Erslan.
Despite being one of the few people who pointed out the death of UFC Fight Night co-main events nearly half a decade ago, the promotion’s matchmakers find new lows that surprise even me.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m a fan of Crute and can see why you’d want to feature local talent toward the top of the card. However, it’s hard to get too excited for a fighter who has self-admittedly had one foot out the door for decent stretches of his young UFC career.
Erslan, on the other hand, looks like a solid action fighter who will do his part, but there’s not much to note about the Croatian outside of his skills in boxing range.
Should Erlsan find some early success, then I wouldn’t be shocked to see him shake Crute’s confidence en route to a stoppage win. That said, I have a hard time ignoring the clear submission grappling edge Crute carries on paper.
Add in Erslan’s habit of exposing his back to stand, and I suspect Crute can lock up another submission in Round 1.
