India Women’s Squad for ODI World Cup 2025: Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India for the first time in a 50-overs World Cup as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Women’s ODI squad for the showpiece event. Star opener Smriti Mandhana was appointed as Harmanpreet’s deputy as India are marked to open their campaign against Sri Lanka on September 30.

The venue for the tournament opener, however, is yet to be decided after a Karnataka government-appointed commission deemed the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru unsafe to host large-scale events following the catastrophic stampedes at the venue following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory parade and celebrations.

Meanwhile, opener Shafali Verma missed out from both the World Cup squad as well as the team for the Australia ODI series.

India have had a rather flawless run against most oppositions, barring arch-nemesis Australia, since the start of 2024. Harmanpreet’s side wiped out South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies and Ireland at home while trumping England 2-1 in their recent series away from home. India also clinched the recent tri-series trophy held in Sri Lanka, beating the hosts and South Africa to firm up their 50-overs squad. However, their final set of rehearsals will be held during the forthcoming ODI series against world champions Australia, to be played in Mullanpur and Delhi between September 14 and 20.
