Conservative commentator Candace Owens has claimed that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of assassinating Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, may have been “framed”, citing what she called “major inconsistencies” in the federal investigation. During a video streamed to her followers, Owens presented a photo she said was sent repeatedly to her “tip line,” which allegedly shows Robinson at a Dairy Queen around 6:38 p.m. on September 10, minutes after Kirk’s fatal shooting at Utah Valley University.
Owens told viewers that the fast-food outlet was roughly 17 minutes away from the campus, raising doubts about the prosecution’s timeline. “According to my timeline, it was allegedly taken at 6:38 p.m.,” she said. “He looks calm, content even. You don’t seem shaken after what they claim just happened. Something isn’t right here.” Owens described the outfit in the image as “a 50/50 combo” of clothing allegedly worn by Robinson before and during the attack.
Owens Says Timeline, Demeanour Raise Red Flags
The conservative podcaster, who has often questioned federal investigations, accused authorities of suppressing alternative evidence and suggested the government may be “pushing a fake narrative.” “You can’t have someone shoot a man on a public campus and then casually sit down for a Blizzard at Dairy Queen unless something is being staged,” Owens said during the segment.
Her remarks quickly went viral, drawing both support and criticism across political lines. While some conservatives demanded further investigation, others accused Owens of spreading misinformation. Law enforcement sources have not verified the authenticity of the image she displayed. Officials in Utah declined to comment on the claim, citing the ongoing prosecution.
Prosecutors Cite Strong Forensic Evidence Against Robinson
Prosecutors, meanwhile, maintain that the evidence against Robinson is “overwhelming.” DNA recovered from the trigger of the rifle used in the shooting reportedly matched Robinson’s genetic profile, and investigators say he confessed via text to his partner, writing: “I am, I’m sorry.” A handwritten note from his apartment read, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
Authorities have not released a definitive motive but say Robinson had previously expressed anger toward Kirk’s views on transgender issues. Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump, was shot while taking a student question.
Students returned to Utah Valley University this week, leaving flowers at the barricaded courtyard. Utah Governor Spencer Cox urged calm, saying, “Anger is natural—but what we do with that anger will define where we go from here.”
