Charlie Campbell vs. Tom Nolan UFC Perth preview
Campbell (9-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) may have lost his fight on Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2022, but found his way into the UFC just over a year later. He’s now has two UFC fights under his belt: a bonus-winning first-round TKO of Alex Reyes and a unanimous decision over Trevor Peek. … Nolan (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) did win his way into the UFC through DWCS, but suffered a setback against Nikolas Motta in his debut. Since then, he has ripped off three conseutive wins over Victor Martinez, Alex Reyes and Viacheslav Borshchev.
Charlie Campbell vs. Tom Nolan UFC Perth expert pick, prediction
Kicking off the main card in Perth is an impromptu lightweight bout between Tom Nolan and Charlie Campbell.
Nolan, who was initially slated to face Evan Elder, will now square off with another American in Campbell.
Although Campbell took this fight on two weeks’ notice, the native New Yorker appeared to be in camp with Elder, for whatever that’s worth. That said, I suspect that the travel and weight cut will be an extra difficult hurdle for Campbell to clear, considering the context of time and location.
I’ll also be curious to see how Campbell approaches a southpaw like Nolan, who will have solid size parity and can kick with “The Cannibal” in kind. I haven’t been the biggest believer in Nolan’s ceiling or style, but the 25-year-old showed some solid improvements in his last fight that I have to acknowledge.
Campbell is a natural performer who certainly has the power to put Nolan away, but it’s hard to depend on his wild stylings and lack of process.
Grappling could be a wash, so I’ll side with the southpaw who isn’t fighting on short notice. The pick is Nolan by unanimous decision.
