The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a 35-year-old business woman, Blessing Atanda before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N460,000 fraud.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence about 9.00 am on March 3 at Ile Epo Bus stop, along Lagos Badagry expressway, Badagry, Lagos.
Ekpo alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N460,000 from one Mrs Rabiu Ayo, the complainant, under the false pretext.
“The defendant unlawfully converted the money to her own use without the consent of the complainant.
“She was arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said.
According to Ekpo, the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Layeni ruled that one of the sureties must be self-employed.
The News Agency of Nigeria is (NAN) reports that the magistrate adjourned the case until August 28, for mention.
