From Paul Orude, Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has been honoured with the prestigious People’s Choice Governors Excellence Award in Paris, France, in recognition of his transformational leadership and commitment to good governance.
The award, conferred under the category of Transformational Leadership and Good Governance in Africa, celebrates the governor’s policies on inclusive development and his efforts to improve the lives of Bauchi people.
Governor Mohammed, who was represented at the ceremony by his Chief of Staff, Dr Aminu Hassan Gamawa, described the award as “a call to do even more for the people of Bauchi State, to consolidate the gains we have made, and to sustain the values of service, accountability, and transformational leadership.”
The Paris event, held on Tuesday, August 19, brought together leaders, policy experts, and development advocates from across the continent. Ten governors from Africa, including those from Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, Ethiopia, and Nigeria, were recognised for excellence in governance.
Organised by an independent awards secretariat and selection committee comprising African development advocates, academics, and governance experts, the honours were awarded strictly on merit, impact, and measurable leadership outcomes.
According to the organisers, the awards spotlight sub-national leaders who demonstrate innovation, courage, and people-centred governance, with the aim of inspiring others to follow their example.
Governor Bala Mohammed’s recognition was anchored on his administration’s achievements in:
– Infrastructure renewal: roads, housing, and urban regeneration projects.
– Education and health reforms: expansion and renovation of schools and healthcare facilities across Bauchi’s 20 LGAs.
– Agricultural and economic transformation: support for farmers, women, and youth through irrigation schemes, modern farming techniques, and entrepreneurship programmes.
– Peace and inclusion: policies promoting interfaith dialogue, unity, and community engagement.
While congratulating fellow awardees, the governor described them as “partners in building a new story of Africa where leadership is not about titles, but about impact, innovation, and legacy.”
He also used the platform to invite the international community to the forthcoming Bauchi State Investment Summit, where opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, mining, technology, and tourism will be showcased.
The Paris honour adds to the growing list of awards Governor Mohammed has received for his commitment to transformational leadership, further cementing his place among Africa’s most respected leaders.
