If it feels like you’re constantly being asked what your zodiac sign is, no matter where you turn these days, it’s not just a “you” thing. A June 2025 Gallup poll estimated that roughly one-quarter of Americans believe in astrology, and many of them turn to their star charts to learn more about themselves and their lives.
Is it truly that surprising, then, that many folks are looking to astrology to help them optimize their workouts? If you ask Jalisa Danielle, a Houston-based astrologer and personal trainer, it makes complete sense.
“I look at my clients’ birth charts before I train them,” Danielle told Outside. “Prior to this knowledge, I was like, ‘Why doesn’t everyone go to the gym and love it like I do?’ When you learn astrology, you understand people’s energies and that some people did not incarnate here to lift weights or do long runs. It’s just not their thing, and everyone’s fitness journey looks different.”
Brittani Elise, a nutritionist, astrologer, and fitness instructor based on Australia’s eastern coast, agrees. She gives her new clients the option to share their birth details on her intake forms so that she can more easily tailor her recommendations to their exact needs.
“If they’re predominantly earth-based, they might want more rigidity and structure, whereas air signs might want more variety,” Elise says. “Fire signs might want a bit more creativity and freedom, so you can tweak your approach based on that. It’s all about finding out more about yourself and being able to honor that, rather than trying to grind in one direction that’s just not serving you.”
With this in mind, we asked Danielle and Elise for their input to inform a signature workout, recovery tip, and unhinged recovery fantasy for each of the 12 zodiac signs. Those listed refer to your Sun sign, which relates to your birthday, and represents your core identity.
You can also rely on your Mars sign, says Danielle. Mars is said to govern anger, passion, and war. Because your Mars sign is so deeply connected to physical activity, says Danielle, you can use it to see how you might personalize your next workout. So, identify both your Sun and Mars signs—you can calculate your Mars sign here—and see which resonates with you the most.
Aries (March 21 to April 19):
Release Pent-Up Anger in the Boxing Ring
Get yourself to the boxing ring to spar with whoever is brave enough to face off with you. Once you’ve gotten that out of your system (for now), you’ll probably want to order a hot turmeric ginger tea—four bags, minimum. You’re thinking about heading abroad for an ayahuasca retreat and might just leave in the morning.
Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
Escape the World on a Solo Hike
Hit the trail for an outdoor hike, the more time-consuming and challenging, the better. To recover, you’ll snack on your homemade granola blend packed with plenty of nuts and seeds before finally clicking “buy” on that yurt-style tent you’ve been eyeing online because—doesn’t life in the woods just sound easier?
Gemini (May 21 to June 21)
Channel Your Inner Pole Dancer
You’re a regular at the gym’s pole dancing class, but really any group fitness class will do. Afterward, you’ll get the juiciest gossip from your workout bestie on a leisurely walk through the park and convince them to join your backpacking journey across Eastern Europe next summer.
Cancer (June 22 to July 22)
The Gym Is *Not* Your Happy Place
You’re dedicated to your home Pilates practice, and no one can hold a plank like you. Going to a gym? Nah. After your rigorous daily session, you’ll concoct a refreshing, soothing smoothie and get back to work on designing a smartphone app that automatically cancels your social plans when you’re just not feeling it.
Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
Pour Your Boss Energy into Starting a Run Club
You launched your neighborhood’s first-ever run club, and everyone can’t get enough of it. To cool down, you head out on a chill bike ride with friends. While your friends talk, you can’t help but imagine how popular the docuseries centered on your life’s quest for connection and greatness through the neighborhood run club will be.
Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
Quell Your Overthinking Mind with a Yoga Session
Yoga is everything for you, especially when you can get down really, really low into a runner’s lunge. Once you’re done with the workout, you’ll head out for forest bathing and take plenty of deep breaths while chasing away your intrusive thoughts. Back home, it’s time to pull up your five-year plan Google Doc for a daily check-in.
Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 23)
End Every Workout with a Luxurious Bath
Life is short, so you’re always treating yourself to the buzziest Barre classes and other offerings at the most #aesthetic studios. When you’re holding an arabesque, you truly feel like yourself. You’ll unwind with an obnoxiously long bubble bath while you go back and forth over whether to press “send” on the resignation email you have drafted to your boss.
Scorpio (Oct. 24 to Nov. 21)
Instead of Hitting People, Do HIIT Instead
An intense HIIT interval session on the rowing machine will allow you to brood with every stroke, followed by a cold plunge that will help you cool down before spending the rest of the day updating the list of nemeses who have wronged you in your journal.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)
Satisfy Your Constant Need for Adventure and Climb a Mountain—a Big One
Rock climb to your heart’s content while getting in touch with your adventurous spirit before taking a relaxing break in the sauna, because for you, there’s no such thing as too much sweat. To relax, you’ll plan your next BASE jumping outing.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)
Fantasize About Your Goals While You Lift
Stick to your power-lifting routine, upping the ante over time, and keep a possibly-too-close eye on your long-term goals. Unwind with yoga exercises and ease tight muscles with your foam roller. How about signing up for that yoga instructor course? We know you love having at least three side hustles at any given time.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)
Your Unpredictability Begets an Array of Exercise Choices
You’re a parkour master, jumping, climbing, and running, who never does the exact same thing twice. After working up an appetite, you’ll nosh on a dense leafy green salad heavily sourced from your garden and ponder deleting Instagram for the tenth time, only to rejoin weeks later with an all-new @ and personal brand.
Pisces (Feb. 19 to March 20)
Relax Your Restless, Emotional Brain in the Forest
A passion-filled dance-based workout that lets you get into a creative flow. A leisurely stroll through a quiet forest, along the nearest body of water, is the perfect backdrop to your daydreaming. If you hop into a rowboat to drift off toward your new life two towns over, so be it!
