APC leaders, sitting govs working with coalition

Former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Babachir Lawal said many leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including sitting governors, are disillusioned with the ruling party and are secretly working with the coalition.

Lawal stated this in an interview on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines programme on Tuesday evening.

Last week, the coalition opposition officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform to challenge the APC in the 2027 general election.

Arrowheads of the coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, among others.

Lawal accused the ruling APC of stifling dissent and its leadership of intolerance and bullying.

The ex-SGF said it was for this reason that many chieftains of the party are secretly working with the coalition.

He said, “APC has never been united. It’s a party bullied into silence.

“You can’t even advise them. The moment you raise dissent, you become the enemy.”

Admitting working against the APC before officially quitting it on June 29, Lawal claimed many leaders of the party, including sitting governors, are equally secretly working with the coalition.

“Many are with us. Very, very many,” he said.

He dismissed insinuations that the coalition was built on hatred for Tinubu.

Lawal said, “This coalition isn’t just an anti-Tinubu project. Our goal is clear: Replace a non-performing government with one that serves Nigerians better.”
