Competing as a team in their hometown of Toronto for the first time since 2001, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defeated FTR at AEW All Out on Saturday.
Cope and Cage received a helping hand from Copeland’s wife, Beth Copeland, during the match. Beth, built a WWE Hall of Fame career under the name Beth Phoenix, neutralized FTR’s manager, Stokely Hathaway, in her AEW debut.
Copeland kicked out of a spike piledriver and a Shatter Machine during the match before hitting a spear out of nowhere to pick up the win.
However, FTR got the last laugh by handcuffing Cope to the ropes after the match and hitting Beth with a spike piledriver.
Last month at Forbidden Door, Cope and Christian made a successful return to the tag team ranks, beating Killswitch and Kip Sabian in their first tag match as partners in 14 years.
When Cope first came to AEW in 2023, he made it clear that he wanted to reunite with his longtime friend and tag team partner, but Cage shot him down, which led to a lengthy rivalry between them.
The dynamic changed at All In when Copeland returned from a hiatus to save Cage from an attack at the hands of FTR and Christian’s former Patriarchy stablemates after they turned on him.
Cope told Cage to go find himself after rescuing him from a con-chair-to, and Christian seemed to take the advice to heart, as he returned on the Aug. 13 edition of Dynamite to save Copeland from getting beaten down by FTR, Nick Wayne and Sabian.
While FTR focused on trying to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Forbidden Door, Copeland and Christian got their first taste of revenge with a win over Killswitch and Sabian.
With that out of the way, FTR moved firmly into their crosshairs, leading to an altercation on the Aug. 27 episode of Dynamite.
Cope was once close friends with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, but they turned on him at Dynasty back in April, which was one of the first catalysts that led to the Copeland and Christian reunion.
On the Aug. 27 Dynamite, Cope and Cage interrupted FTR while they were blaming referee Paul Turner for costing them the tag team titles at Forbidden Door, which led to a tag bout between the teams being made official for All Out.
With the Canadian crowd firmly behind them, Copeland and Christian were victorious once again at All Out, although their rivalry with FTR is clearly far from over.
