Abang denies sponsoring violence in Cross River communities

    From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar

Pius Abang, a former House of Representatives aspirant for Ikom/Boki federal constituency in Cross River State, has denied allegations that he sponsored the recent violent attacks on residents of Boje and Isobendeghe communities in Boki local government area.

He described the allegations as baseless and illogical, given his significant farming interests in Isobendeghe community. “I have several hectares of cocoa crop in Isobendeghe, and I wouldn’t jeopardise my investments by fuelling violence in the area,” he said.

Abang revealed that he had been unable to access his farm since May 15, 2025, when four men purportedly from Boje community stormed his cocoa plantation and threatened his life. “Farming is my primary source of livelihood, and I wouldn’t risk losing my investments,” he emphasised.

Abang attributed the allegations to political opponents seeking to discredit him ahead of the 2027 elections. “They’ve hired individuals to spread false information on social media platforms to damage my reputation,” he claimed.

The ex-Reps aspirant has reached out to the Commissioner of Police, requesting his intervention in the matter. He also denied any involvement with an individual named Jerry, who was mentioned in a defamatory article, and advised those seeking justice to seek redress through the courts rather than social media.
