There comes a time in every long-distance runner’s life when they, begrudgingly, have to run a fast and short 5K race. As a running coach and marathoner, I tend to avoid these like the plague, but when I got the opportunity to run the BAA 5K during Boston Marathon weekend, I couldn’t say no. However, I was coming off a knee injury and needed a shoe that would support my joints for my first race back—that’s where the Adidas Adizero EVO SL sneakers come in.

These cushioned running shoes are everything a runner (and walker) could want in a supportive running shoe. They’re made with the brand’s coveted Lighstrike Pro foam that transforms the midsole into something so plush, it’s otherworldly. “The Adizero Evo SL is built for those who want to look good and feel fast, whether they’re training for a race or wanting to elevate their run club outfits,” says Simon Lockett, the Global Category Director for Running Footwear at Adidas.

If you, like me, need all the help you can get for speed sessions, races, or steps on vacation, you would benefit from these babies. They’re in the same family as the record-breaking Adizero Pro 4, you know, the carbon-plated shoe that all of the world’s fastest marathon runners always show up and show out in. In these, you’re all but promised stellar results.

When I first pulled these out, I thought they were missing a piece of something. I didn’t think it was possible with anything that you put on your feet to weigh so little. I didn’t need any break-in time to get these feeling fantastic. In fact, the first time I wore them was for my race, which I PR’d. Sure, I did some training to help with that, but the comfy shoes kept my joints happy throughout the 3.1 miles, which is no small feat for my temperamental feet.

I believe that incredible running shoes shouldn’t be left collecting dust while waiting for race days. Once I find a pair I love, I wear it as much as possible. Hence why these Adidas running shoes are now among my favorite walking pairs, too.

It’s pretty much the perfect shoe for anybody of all skill levels. The responsive Lightstrike Pro foam provides awesome energy return for steps and strides, while the Adizero-inspired drop and underfoot geometry ensure comfort and help your form, according to Lockett. It basically does all the dirty work for you. Obsessed is an understatement. Shop more of my favorite Adidas running shoes below.
