The Marines, from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, were placed on alert over the weekend and are now joining Task Force 51. According to the statement, this move is aimed at “providing Task Force 51 with adequate numbers of forces to provide continuous coverage of the area in support of the lead federal agency.”
Task Force 51, which is a part of US Army North’s Contingency Command Post, includes roughly 2,100 National Guard soldiers operating under Title 10 status. The unit is designed to offer “a rapidly deployable capability to partner with civil authorities and DoD entities in response to a Homeland Defense and Homeland Security operation,” the statement said. It is commanded by Maj. Gen. Scott M. Sherman.
This is a developing story.
