Cincinnati promoted former Tennessee baseball pitcher Chase Burns to Triple-A, according to Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com.
The former Vol appeared in eight games, including eight starts, for the Reds’ Double-A affiliate Chattanooga in 2025. He totaled 55 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA in 42.0 innings with the Lookouts.
Burns’ (6-1) last game with Chattanooga was June 8 against Knoxville at Covenant Health Park.
He started for the Lookouts in his return to Knoxville. Burns pitched a complete game (seven innings) and recorded six strikeouts against the Smokies. He totaled 80 pitches, including 60 strikes, against 24 batters.
The former Vol allowed three hits, zero runs and zero walks.
He played for Tennessee from 2022-23 before transferring to Wake Forest in 2024, and was selected No. 2 overall in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft by Cincinnati.
Burns (13-5) appeared in 35 games, including 22 starts, at Tennessee. He recorded a 3.54 ERA, 217 strikeouts and two saves in 152.1 innings.
Tennessee (57-9) and Burns won the SEC regular season and tournament championships in 2022. The Vols (44-22) also advanced to the College World Series in 2023.
