The Chief Imam of Awujoola Central Mosque, Saabo, Oyo, Oyo State, Sheikh Hamzah Ahmad, has urged President Bola Tinubu, the 36 state governors and other relevant political office holders to use this year’s Eid-el-Kabir to address the economic challenges besetting the progress of Nigeria.

Speaking at the Jumat service held at Awujoola Central Mosque Saabo, Oyo, on Friday, Ahmad described the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir and Jumat service on the same day taught all Muslims from all over the world the act of sacrifices and compassion for others.

The cleric said the promise made by Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son to God was a big sacrifice of leadership and the killing of rams in exchange for the life of Ismail – his son, should be done with compassion.

“Today’s celebration of Eid-el-Kabir coincided with the Jumat service. It marks the 10th day of Dhul- Hijjah, after the glorious Arafat day, held last Thursday in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

“As we celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir, we must be conscious of the purpose of this celebration. We must also be aware that Allah does not need the blood of the rams that had been killed. What is important to us as Muslims from all over the world is the fear of the Almighty Allah, the sacrifices we made as exemplified by prophet Ibrahim, as well as the love and compassion we extend to people, especially the poor in our society.

“President Tinubu, the governors and other political office holders should use this occasion of Eid-el-Kabir as means of sacrifice for the nation’s growth. The president must address the economic situation in the country,” he said.
